Paw paw (Asima triloba)
One of our favorite trees at Garfield Community Farm because of its delicious, tropic-like, fruit. Pawpaw trees grow up to about 25 or 30 feet, but can be kept smaller. Our trees are potted in 10 inch tall tree pots, trees are approximately twelve inch tall seedlings planted in 2025. They’ll put up suckers within their drip-line creating a thicket of food producing trees. Pawpaws also are the host plant for the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly, a large and rare butterfly that has recently found its way back to the Allegheny plateau.
